Background of the Study
Performance appraisal is a crucial element of human resource management that involves evaluating employees’ work performance and providing feedback to enhance future performance. In organizations like Flour Mills of Nigeria, one of the leading players in the Nigerian manufacturing sector, performance appraisals are used to assess employees’ strengths, identify areas for improvement, and align individual performance with organizational goals. Performance appraisals play an essential role in boosting employee motivation, enhancing productivity, and ensuring that the workforce contributes effectively to achieving organizational objectives.
Bauchi State, where Flour Mills of Nigeria operates, presents unique challenges in terms of infrastructure, labor markets, and regional economic conditions. As such, the impact of performance appraisal systems on employee productivity is particularly significant in this region. Studies have shown that effective performance appraisal systems, which are fair, transparent, and aligned with organizational goals, can lead to improved employee productivity by motivating employees, providing career development opportunities, and enhancing job satisfaction (Adeyemi & Bello, 2023). However, despite the significance of performance appraisal, the effectiveness of such systems in driving employee productivity at Flour Mills of Nigeria in Bauchi State has not been extensively studied.
Understanding the relationship between performance appraisal and employee productivity in the context of Flour Mills of Nigeria is vital for optimizing human resource management practices, increasing workforce output, and fostering a more productive working environment.
